Prologue

KashiBai was born and raised in Chaaskaman village. She was the darling daughter of her father Mahadji Krishna Joshi and mother Shiubai and was fondly called as "Laadubai". Kashibai belonged to a wealthy banker family. She also had a brother named Krishna Rao chaskar. Her father was wealthy money lender or subedar of maratha empire in Kalyan. A factor which played the pivotal role in alliance of Kashi Bai and Bajirao.

KashiBai was the first wife of Bajirao I, she was a mere child when she was married to Bajirao, the son of Radha Bai and Balaji Vishwanath bhat the first peshwa of Chhatrapati Sahu. They were married on 11 March 1711 in a household ceremony at saswad.

She was a soft spoken lady as given and read in records. She bore five sons to Bajirao, of only two survived childhood. She was greatly loved by bajirao and also was a very doted wife, she served him dotingly on his deathbed.

Even though her husband fell in love with Mastani, the adopted daughter of Raja chhatrasal of Bundelkhand. Still Kashi never stopped being a devoted wife and also never had any malice against mastani but couldn't accept her wholly because she wasn't able to go against her mother in law Radha Bai and brother in law Chima ji appa (Bajirao's young brother). After mastani joined Kashi Bai had some troubled days in the family, but that never meant that Bajirao started giving her lesser importance.

Where as Kashi Bai controlled the day to day running of Empire due to her social nature, even after her husband died she immersed herself into religious activities.

Even though the movies and some historians today highlight the lovers Bajirao-Mastani, there's another side the story. Of a woman who got ignored in the later part of her life when the peshwa decided to spend the rest of his life as an alcoholic, as someone who defied his caste rules by eating meat and openly consorting Mastani at her place forgetting away his own family and home, to which he was attached once.

Author's Note

This is a brief history recap of her origin and reality. My book is a work of fiction, it had a touch of history and is written from Kashi's viewpoint. I promise to my readers that I am not altering any history instead I am just adding my imagination to the plot. I want to make everyone read the book and go inside the shoes of the strong lady and think twice about everything she has done and gone through which remains unsung in the pages of history.

This book is nothing more than a dedication offered by me to the most beautiful, my favorite and strongest character in the history.

To Kashi Bai,

From the time I have known you, I respect you and adore you. It feels like you have have owned my heart since forever. A different connection which couldn't be explained. Thankyou for being the kindest and strongest woman, and that forever good human.
